 The steel city derby semi at Wembley was only 90 seconds old when Chris Waddle stepped up to take a free-kick so far from goal, the opposition didn't bother to construct a wall. Waddle, bought from Marseille the previous summer, duly took advantage, curling a perfect, left-foot strike beyond the reach of Alan Kenny in the United goal.
