Solis was considered one of the best Costa Rican players of his generation, however, the 110 international caps do not make up for his unsuccessful move to Derby County in the summer of 1996. Signed along with his team-mate Paulo Wanchope, one would go on to become a Rams legend, the other into football oblivion.

The defensive midfielder was the latter and seemed way out of his depth in the Premier League. He lasted just two seasons in the top flight and racked up a paltry 11 games for the Rams.
